Originally set up to handle Marc's songwriting catalog with BMI in 1971, Marco Polo Music has been serving the music industry for over 40 years. Our core services include Audio Restorations...Piano Tuning and Repair...Music Instruction & Publishing...and Marc's Solo Performances.

Following are Bios of Marc and Kathy.

 

Marc P. Mailhot

Marc was born on April 5, 1951 in Batavia, NY, moved to Westbrook, Maine in 1954, and has lived there ever since. He began his musical career in September 1957 at age 6 formally studying the piano under the late renowned Maine teacher Louis Sirois for 11 years...and played his first formal public performance in a Piano Recital in May 1960.  He began playing drums in 1964 inspired by his father playing drums before him and the British Invasion beginning with The Beatles. Marc continues playing and performing on both instruments today.

In 1966 Marc was chosen to represent Westbrook High School as a Tenor in the All-State Concert and in 1968 sang Edelweiss...from The Sound Of Music...as a Solo with the Westbrook High School Chorus in the All-City Concert.  During his  career...he has performed literally thousands of gigs with pioneering Maine Bands Love, Inc. and Pegasus in the 1960's and 1970's and currently performs with The Chapparals and as a Solo Artist.  Marc has also written...recorded, toured extensively, and produced. As a member of Love, Inc. in 1968 he opened for well known Boston groups The Orphans and Ultimate Spinach and with Pegasus in the 1970's he opened for national artists Bob Seger and Edgar Winter.

Marc taught keyboard and drums at Starbird Music in Portland, Maine in the 1960's and early 1970's and continues teaching privately. He is also a Piano Tuner and a proud member of the Maine Arts Commission...Portland Music Foundation...New England Songwriters Guild...the Maine Songwriters Association...and the North American Music Teachers Association.

Marc continues a series of Solo performances begun in 2010 featuring his piano playing and singing many of the songs spanning his over-50 year career...including Recital pieces...popular songs...a few classics...and also some of his original songs...along with stories from his career...entertaining his audiences.  Please check back on the Performance link on the landing page for upcoming shows.

Marc is an Alumni of Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, VT and also attended the University of Southern Maine, and was a Judge in the 2009...2010 and 2011 Guitar Center Drum-Offs in their South Portland, Maine store. He is also the Drummer for the St. Anthony's Parish Choir in Westbrook.

Kathleen A. Mailhot

Kathleen, Executive Vice-President for Marco Polo Music, was born in Portland, Maine and brings over 30 years of Administrative experience and Public Relations expertise to the Company. She joined the Company in 2007 and accompanies Marc to most Gigs and official Company functions.

Earlier in her career she worked at several well known retail outlets, including a music store in the Portland area where she assisted Marc when he was Manager there.  They were the first husband and wife team in the store's history. Kathleen's Administrative experience allows her to handle many aspects of the day to day operations of the Company while Marc is working on other projects.

In September of 2007 she and Marc attended the official kick-off of the Portland Music Foundation and had the opportunity to meet with fellow musicians and officials from the Maine music business. She also accompanied Marc to the New Hampshire International Drum Expo in Manchester in October 2007, and met with some of the most well-known drummers in the world.  You can see some of their photos on the Vintage Page.

Kathleen and Marc have been married 33 years and have three grown children...Christopher...Shannon and Allison...and five  grandchildren...Mackenzie...Noah...Abbe...Landon...and ..Keagan. They are expecting their 6th grandchild...Reese...in March 2012!
